Exploring Authentication Solutions: Fingerprinting Security Keys to Avoid Device Cloning Threats in Remote Data Access

摘要 Abstract 

User authentication plays a critical role in various industrial applications, serving as a prerequisite for granting remote data access. Previous research has shown that devices or smart cards that store security keys for user authentication are vulnerable to cloning by potential adversaries. The integrity of the authentication process stands at risk should the information be revealed. The talk delves into privacy-preserving multi-factor authentication protocols, utilizing physically unclonable functions (PUFs) as a fundamental element. For user identification, our methods minimize the generation of numerous challenge-response pairs (CRPs) on the server while maintaining critical cryptographic characteristics such as unpredictability, unrepeatability, and uncertainty. Further, this talk delivers prospective research avenues to counter future quantum attacks.
